The Bazaar Preparation

 

In conjunction with The Showcase Bazaar 2018 that is going to be held in CIMB Ruang Legar on the 28th – 30th of November, Taylor’s Community organised a Program Keusahanan University class to assist the participants to prepare for the bazaar.

The morning kickstarted with a talk by Nela, Taylor’s Community Project Manager and counsellor, on the importance of emotional stability. The purpose of this topic was to prepare the participants to be ready for the various challenges that they might face during the bazaar and in their businesses. The talk was followed by Rara, an F&B entrepreneur herself touching on how to take these challenges as opportunities instead.

Introducing Junior World

The idea of educating the right brain of the younger children started a program named Junior World and was held at Pertubuhan Pusat Kebajikan Destiny on the 1st of November 2018. Taylor’s Community organized a half-day program involving 4 volunteers and 38 children aged four to six years old. Art-based activities were carried out to encourage positive behaviour, these activities also allowed the children to polish their social skills, support their emotional growth in a fun and safe environment.

The children demonstrated excitement and were eager to begin the activity as soon as they saw the arrival of the volunteers. The first activity, ‘Who Are You’, was aimed to create awareness of self-identity through art. The children made themselves a name tag using various art materials. The second activity, ‘Tropical Fruits’, was carried out to encourage creativity and artistic attitude among children. The children teamed up to make tropical fruits using colourful clays with the guidance and supervision of the volunteers and teachers. It was a colourful outcome as both the activities used a variety of colours, the children were participative and the home was filled with sounds of laughter of not just the children, but also the volunteers.

SOCIT Awareness Workshop

With the rising era of an increasing use of technology, Taylor’s School of Computing and Information Technology (SOCIT) organised an awareness workshop that focused on spreading the benefits of technology to the underserved community. The workshop was divided into 3 categories – for kids aged 12 and below, teenagers, and adults above 18 years old. The participants invited were Taylor’s Community’s main beneficiaries from the Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) and an NGO, SOLS 24/7.

The main aim of the workshop was to expose the community to computing and IT. The focus for the adults was to introduce how technology can help their small businesses reach a wider target audience.

By the end of the workshop, the adult category participants managed to post their products online on websites such as Mudah.my and Carousell. The teenagers had an increase in knowledge on how to utilise social media for good use and marketing a business. The basic of computing and IT were delivered to the younger participants from the kids’ category.

Collaboration with PLUS Expressways Berhad @ Destiny

An exciting collaboration between Taylor’s Community (TC) and PLUS Expressways Berhad happened last week at a refugee learning centre – Destiny, Klang. 30 employees volunteered to experience and understand the living condition of the refugee children. Irene, the founder of Destiny, kick-started the morning with her inspiring journey on how Destiny started from 20 students to 80 students now aged 2 to 7 years old. Then, 2 employee volunteers raised the energy with an ice-breaker playing the iconic “Baby Shark” song with the children.  You could see the smiles of the children as they were so familiar with the song and were giving their all to the song.

Let’s Start Marketing!

Last Saturday was the 6th Program Keusahawanan (PK)* University and was aimed to prepare the Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) participants for an upcoming Bazaar that will be happening on the 28-30th of November in Ruang Legar CIMB KL.

HomemadeMarket, an online marketplace in Malaysia built exclusively for wholesome homemade flavor, was invited to give a workshop about the importance of marketing and its strategy. One of the insights gathered was that the PPR participants do not understand the value of their skills and expertise. Their lack of self-confidence disallows them to set an appropriate pricing for their products and services. Many of them struggle to identify their unique value proposition for their businesses.
