“Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, teach a man how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”
Starting from 2017, Taylor’s Community-CIMB Islamic formed a partnership aiming to alleviate urban poverty through an entrepreneurship program, called Program Keusahawanan (PK). PK is crafted for business owners within the low cost public housing communities under the Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR). Through these two years, we have seen the impact from this program where charity is transformed to sustainability, to go beyond giving, where participants are educated and empowered to fish for themselves.
Following the completion of PK1.0 2018, we felt that more can be done for these participants. Thus, in 2018, Taylor’s Community decided to launch a part 2 where more business and marketing workshops were held over 6 months to further educate them. Furthermore, scholarships in monetary form were given to the participants as incentives to attend the classes. We are encouraged by their dedication and commitment towards learning and growing, in their business as well as their personal well-being.
Most of them highlighted that PK boosted their monthly income, increased their confidence and widened their network. Here are some of their words:
Moreover, we are adding their children to the troop by forming a mini entrepreneurs Program. Our objective is to shape the younger generation with an entrepreneurial mindset, tackling attitudes, skills and behaviours. Teaching entrepreneurship is all about instilling inter-disciplinary skills which boost attributes such as self-motivation, creativity, adaptability, problem solving and innovation that will help them grow personally, academically and professionally.
“In 2019, it is our vision to educate and empower 1000 entrepreneurs!”
Moving forward, our leaders, both Dato’ Loy Teik Ngan, CEO of Taylor’s Education Group, and Mr. Rafe Haneef, CEO of CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad, are committed to bring this program to the next level, engaging more potential partners and stakeholders. In 2019, it is our vision to reach 1000 entrepreneurs across Malaysia. To make this happen, we need everyone’s support! We hope you’ll be part of us, part of our mission in transforming charity into sustainability.
Attached below is the testimonies of our participants, see how they have helped themselves! We only provided them a platform, they themselves did it!

“Children are the future of tomorrow.” You and I, we familiar with this saying, but how many people actually to internalise the truth of this statement and act upon it?
“It takes the whole village to raise a child.” – YB Fahmi Fadzil, Member of parliament for Lembah Pantai.
In this day and age, with urbanisation, phones and instant media, we are slowly drifting apart as a close knitted community, and surely, we do not want this to happen to our future generation where everyone lives in silos, where in actual fact, our world know requires collaboration like never before, be it in education, technology, businesses, or even CSR, people need to work together in order to produce impactful results.
Thus, a collaborative spirit must be built in our children, our future generation, and where else other than a community club for children. Just like how YB Fahmi Fadzil puts it, “it takes the whole village to raise a child,” Kids 4 Kids (K4K) Civic Club aims to create a community learning centre in PPR communities and run educational programs for them to encourage interaction.
Taylor’s Community is supporting K4K in executing a 1-year program for the children with a monthly workshop. Last week, on 28th March at MINTS Hall PPR Kg Limau, a technology related session was held, namely, handling Microbits, to make learning fun and gave the 54 children an opportunity to spend their school holidays productively. The children were excited as Kenneth Chai from Learning Curve taught them about electro-wave, transmitters, input, output and above all, designing their very own 3D names. Moreover, YB Fahmi Fadzil, member of parliament for Lembah Pantai, who has been providing his continuous support, dropped by to be with the children and sponsored them ice cream, putting smiles on their faces.
We are proud to say that the number of children attending is a testimony to the sustainability of our work at Lembah Pantai. As encouraged, some children too brought new friends whenever they come for their k4k civic club activity to maximize the impact of connecting children and connecting communities. This round, 99% of our children indicated positive emotions and all the volunteers felt fulfilled and were grateful for the opportunity.
Moving forward, we are excited for the upcoming April workshop regarding history, to bring our children in togetherness, that they will be the future who stands for multidisciplinary collaboration. Follow us to find out how we’re going to make History interesting!
