Today, 20th April 2023, we hosted the fourth program of Reduce Crime Together (RCT) with our partner, AseZ, at MON Refugee School. A total of 20 participants took part in this program in which they were exposed to the ‘Practicing Positive Communication’ topic. In today’s class, they were taught how to improve relationships with others by learning how to sincerely apologize to someone, how to show gratitude, and how to give compliments to others. The students were asked to write down letters of apologies, thanks, and praise for their peers to show their sincere appreciation. As usual, the programs ended with a Korean class where the participants gain exposure to the basic Korean language.

This upcoming Saturday on the 15th of April 2023, Taylor’s Community is having an upcycling workshop in collaboration with Taylor’s students from Taylor’s Nature Club (TNC). The program is named Kertas Krafting and is going to be conducted at one of the refugee schools, Warrior Bride Learning Centre. The aim of this program is to nurture young minds on sustainability which will help the participants to have an awareness of protecting the environment. The participants will be able to learn about the importance of upcycling and repurposing waste. In this program, the participants will learn how to make their own paper by using recycled paper. Additionally, they will be given an opportunity to unleash their creativity through making canvas textured paintings and could stand a chance to win fun prizes! Taylor’s Community carried out the first-ever program called IT Literacy this year in collaboration with Taylor’s Agents of Tech Club on 11th March 2023, last Saturday for our children’s beneficiaries from B40 and the refugee community. A total number of 60 participants, of which 34 participants came from the B40 community and the other 26 came from the refugee schools, GHALC and UWA participated in this program.
The program was taught by two technical leads from Agents of Tech in two separate classes; one class was held in Bahasa Malaysia which is led by Victor for the B40 community while the other class was conducted in English by Faysal Hossain for the refugee community.
The participants were exposed to basic computer functions like searching, creating, and renaming folders, using notes and calculators, and others. 92% of the participants agreed that their understanding of basic computers has increased after attending this program.
Other than that, they also got the opportunity to learn basic computer applications such as Microsoft, Google, and Canva design. 92% of the participants said that they are more confident in using this platform after learning about it. At the end of the module, a mini Canva design competition was held to evaluate their understanding and creativity of what they learned that day. 90% of the students found that the Canva designing session was helpful and fun.
The program ended with a prize-giving ceremony for the Canva designing competition where all the winners were selected by Agents of Tech themselves. All the winners received AEON vouchers for their full participation and commitment to learning in today’s program. On 25th March 2023, with the support from Student Engagement and Leadership (SEAL), Taylor’s Community and Taylor’s AKPK students initiated an educational talk on Financial Literacy called Cents of Wealth. A total of 24 refugee students from our beneficiary schools, MON and GHALC joined this program in Taylor’s Lakeside Campus to acquire knowledge on financial literacy. The participants learned about the importance of saving and earning money as well as budget planning. The participants began the class with a 70% understanding of Financial Literacy and ended the sessions with 88% of the knowledge received.
The module was conducted by AKPK students, Ed Idris and Ching Nam. Ed conducted the saving & earning money module, while Ching Nam led the budget planning module. The participants agreed that the most important factors to save money were Protection (75%), followed by Financial Goals (70.8%). They also learned the importance of planning their budget more effectively by understanding the differences between needs and wants. This method will instill a good habit in managing their finance by knowing what to spend and when to save money.
Moreover, the participants also had the opportunity to participate in activities and games carried out by AKPK such as Quizziz and Pictionary. At the end of the program, 10 lucky winners were chosen by AKPK, where the participants were rewarded based on their active participation during the activities and who scored the highest on the quizzes. The winners each received an RM60 AEON voucher for their efforts throughout the program. All the participants also received a gift bag that contained items such as a calculator and a money-saving box. They enjoyed the program and 100% agreed that the program was helpful for their future.

The 3rd class of Reduce Crime Together Project with AseZ was on ‘Empathising with Others’. It was held at one of our refugee beneficiary school, MON Refugee School where a total of 22 students attended for the program. The participants had to engage in a rolling paper activity which enabled them to practice their emphatic ability to understand other’s emotions. So, about 68% of them learned the different ways of communication to express their emotions when they are the most happy and most worried. As a result, 80% of the participants has a better understanding on how to practice empathy such as to smile to everyone on a daily basis, and to consider others’ feeling by taking care of each other.
Overall, the participants were excited and found the program interesting, hence, we are pleased with the outcome of the program conducted by AseZ. Taylor’s Community will like to thank AseZ once again for another successful program! Stay tune for the upcoming programs with AseZ in the near future!

On Saturday 25th February 2023, we conducted a children program called ‘Speaking Without Words’ at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus. This program was a collaboration program with Taylor’s University Psych Society Club whereby the children of B40 community gets to learn about interesting topic on body language. Through this program, they were taught on the understanding of the different types of body language, how to use it correctly and how to express their emotion through body language.
Around 17 students participated in this program where the first half of the session is the learning syllabus on body language that is conducted by Ms. Pang Chia Yee, one of the Taylor’s Psychology lecturer. The students also get the opportunity to understand about the topic better through group activities that was carried out by the Psych Society students. As a result, 88.2% of the participants agreed that they can applied what they learn in this program to their daily life.
At the end of the program, Psych Society has chosen top 3 students with best participation throughout the program. The lucky winners are Mohammad Mukhlis bin Mohammad Zulfikar, Ahmad Mu’adz bin Mohd Zulfikar, and Siti Hajar bt Mohd Rafae.
