With the cases of Brett Kavanaugh and Larry Nassar going on, the discussion on women empowerment and gender equality are still considered as controversial topics.\u00a0<\/span>Women around the world are affected by pressing social challenges ranging from violence against women to gender discrimination. Gender equality is a fundamental human right that is needed to create a sustainable world for the future generation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, according to The United Nations report, 1 in 5 women and girls between the ages of 15-49 have reported experiencing physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner within a 12-month period and 49 countries currently have no laws protecting women from domestic violence.\u00a0<\/span>In line with the Sustainable Goal 5 to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, Taylor’s Community organised the <\/span>\u2018Program Dinamika Wanita\u2019<\/b> for 51 women from the PPR Sri Pantai Community last Saturday.<\/span>\"\"<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The objective of the programme was to ensure that women were aware of their mental state and physical health. The speaker, Nelavathi Marimuthu, a certified psychologist and Project Manager of Taylor\u2019s Community, touched on the importance of understanding the hormonal changes in women with age, common women health risk, such as breast cancer and accepting that a woman’s power comes from within.<\/span><\/p>\n

By holding back our women, we are holding back our future too.<\/i><\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In the second session, participants were divided into groups for a sharing session. The session required them to sketch out their life journey and share it with their group mates. They were inspired and felt a form of support as they were able to relate to one another’s lives. Many tears were shed, it was truly an eye-opener to see the hardship they have gone through.<\/span>\"\"<\/p>\n

Using the hour-glass methodology, we were able to measure the impact of this programme. Many participants were aware of the health risk faced by women but only on a surface level. The participants shared that they are now more aware of their body and know the next call-to-action if they identify unusual signs of an unhealthy body. They were also very grateful for the group session and created group chats among themselves to keep in touch.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the future, it is time to provide women equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes. A big thank you to the management of PPR Sri Pantai and the team for organising this empowering programme.<\/span><\/p>\n
