Projek #Cuci-Cuci, fully sponsored by Kemas Jernih Sdn Bhd<\/a> was a \u2018goyong royong\u2019 campaign aiming to spread health awareness and prevention of diseases. Besides cleaning up the residential area along with student volunteers from the Taylor’s University Community Service Initiative (C.S.I.)\u00a0Volunteers<\/a>, project members had also invited two medical officers from the Health Department of Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Dr. K. Lalitha and Dr. M.Nesalathchumy to give a short talk in Dengue Fever.<\/p>\n Projek Kebunku involved a collaboration with Global Environment Center (GEC) in building the mini garden at PPR Sri Pantai. The project will serve as a platform for urban farming and foster closer ties among residents. Herbs and vegetables such as Lemongrass, Pandan leaves, Curry leaves and Chillies were planted in this phase and the harvest will be channeled back to the community.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Projek Hijau was a food waste management, collaboration campaign with MAEKO<\/a>. It aimed to create awareness among the residents on the food waste management. With the placement of the composting machine at the PPR, the food waste and leftovers from meals need not rot in the garbage awaiting for disposal anymore. The composting machine would convert the waste into odourless compost within 24 hours that the residents can use to fertilise their mini garden or simply sell it for cash.<\/p>\n The PPR residents enjoyed food samples from The Picha Project<\/a> booth and fun games that showcased the importance of food waste management and recycling by the Taylor\u2019s University School of Medicine students under Dr. Gul Baloch. The Picha Project is a social enterprise aims to empower marginalised communities in Malaysia through a sustainable food catering and delivery business.<\/p>\n There were also upcycling workshops by the Biji-biji Initiative,<\/a> a social enterprise that produces lifestyle products such as bags and furniture from discarded materials. It offers workshops on sustainable living and works with underprivileged communities. The residents, especially the younger generation enjoyed the workshops such as making accessories out of recycled materials, turning an old T-shirt into a bag, turning an empty detergent bottle into a lamp and making a multi purpose hook from discarded utensils.<\/p>\n The highlight of the event was the announcement of the Program Keusahawanan Taylor\u2019s-CIMB Islamic (Taylor\u2019s-CIMB Islamic Entrepreneurship Programe), a partnership between Taylor\u2019s Education Group and CIMB Islamic Bank Bhd by its Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, En. Mohamed Rafe Haneef. \u201cOur objective is to champion sustainable programmes that have the capacity to make a real difference to people\u2019s lives by equipping them with skills such as financial literacy, ability to formulate business plans and human capital management, which are essential to entrepreneurship,\u201d he said.
