PETALING JAYA: In Collaboration with the School of Biosciences and Queensland University of Technology (QUT), a free health awareness campaign for the urban poor community of Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Sri Pantai was successfully carried out last Sunday, 15th of January.<\/p>\n
A number of 16 summer exchange students from QUT, a fellow lecturer from School of Biosciences \u2013 Dr. Ooi Yin Yin and three student volunteers as translators saw to over a hundred curious and earnest residents that underwent the free health screening and consultation provided.<\/p>\n
Then former Dean of School of Biosciences, Dr. Anthony Ho Siong Hock, helmed the event and spoke to the residents. He also helped translate for the Australian students hopes this would transform the community for the better.<\/p>\n

The various health tests comprised of: Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure and lipid profiling, while two booths speaking on sanitation and consultation respectively were included as well. The first 100 residents were gifted a goodies bag after their consultation.<\/p>\n

Daniel de Gruijter, co-founder of Incitement KL, a partner for Taylor’s Community dropped by at the event and shared his experience with us, “I was very enchanted by a little girl that we talked to about washing her hands. This kind of basic skills that we think are completely normal but apparently not so normal everywhere.
